My biomorphic, abstracted sculpture references our interconnectedness in the face of division.  I am visually and conceptually inspired by strong tangible tree systems, mycelium networks and biologic structures that find ways to connect and survive despite difficult conditions. This joins with the complicated, less tangible, interpersonal relationships and sociopolitical tensions we face within the systems and structures in which we live, to further inform my art. Building curvilinear ceramic sculpture and then drawing intertwined graphite lines on the surface, develops energy that seems to emanate from within and radiate outward to form works that feel both alien and organic. The improvisational nature of my process demonstrates how individual parts connect to become a whole, experiencing the continuum of connection that can grow and lead to entanglement. This work suggests the elaborate networks that define our complex world and invites contemplation and reflection upon the part we play in it.
